If you’d like to transfer a domain from one registrar to another, you will have to pass through several security steps. One of them is obtaining a special EPP authorization code from the present registrar – on the condition that you are the domain registrant, since the code is sent to the owner's email account and no one else can obtain it. You will need to give this code to the new domain name registrar, or else they will not be able to initiate the domain name transfer. The EPP codes are case-sensitive and may contain digits or special characters such as commas or dots, which can be easily misentered, so make sure you copy and paste the right code. As an extra safety measure, the transfer authorization code for a domain may be changed regularly. Some companies call this code a domain password, an Auth key or a domain secret as well.
